Tampa, FL – Just hours before pitchers and catchers officially report to Yankees camp, the Yankees make the move to add some more bullpen depth by adding LHP Tyler Matzek on a minor league contract.
For the Yankees, this is a very low-risk, but high reward signing. Matzek pitched to a 9.99 ERA in 10.0 IP during the 2024 season, but the former World Series Champ has had some great years, posting a career 3.72 ERA in a spacey major league career. Matzek does have very high strike out numbers in his career, something the Yankees bullpen desperately needs. At the end of the day, its a minor league deal with not much of a downside, but a huge upside for the Yankees, who now have more bullpen depth than needed, so a trade might be on the horizon. Matt Blake, do your work!
