Early last evening, Jeff Passan of ESPN let the Baseball Community know that Roki Sasaki is down to 3 teams:
- LA Dodgers
- TOR Blue Jays
- SD Padres
The Dodgers and Padres being on this list come as no surprise at all considering the players on the teams, but the Blue Jays shocked me. It was reported by The Athletic that the Jays had snuck in last week late for a meeting and obviously impressed Sasaki for them to be in his final 3.
It was also reported by Bob Nightengale of USA Today, that the Padres are “cautiously optimistic that he is coming” . Shortly before this was posted, a video surfaced on Social Media of Sasaki at Petco Park in Padres Gear working out:
My Prediction
I think Sasaki goes to the Padres. I think he is intrigued by the thought of pitching with Yu Darvish, one of his idols and the fact that his agent said that it was not a forgone conclusion that he goes to LA, but only time will tell I guess.
