Is Arenado on the Move?

STL – This winter, it has been clear that the Cards have made trading Gold Glove 3rd Basemen Nolan Arenado. Earlier in the offseason, it seemed like it would be more of a salary dump, now it seems like it’s more of a personal dump.

There were multiple proposed trades earlier this offseason for Arenado, but whether Arenado vetoed the trade, because of his full no-trade clause, or the team was not interested in what was offered. Since talks with the Boston Red Sox broke down in late December, it seems that St. Louis’ philosophy on the trade has changed. It seems instead of a full salary dump, they are looking to eat some money and get a bigger prospect return.

Well, last night, John Denton, a beat reporter for the Cardinals put out an article that St. Louis has approached the Boston Red Sox, the New York Yankees, and the Los Angeles Dodgers for a potential Nolan Arenado trade. Boston was projected to be the destination earlier this week, but it looks like things have since changed on the Boston front:

I totally agree with what this tweet has to say. From the Red Sox perspective, it would make more sense for the Sox to just sign Bregman than give up the prospect capital that the Cards are asking as a first resort.

From that logic, it seems that the only two teams that have presumably re-engaged with St. Louis’ request was the Red Sox, as reported earlier this week, and now the Yankees. It was also noted by MLB Network that the Cardinals are trying their best to trade Arenado before Tuesday.

Both of these teams are in serious need of an infielder and both are desperate, but will the Red Sox cave before Bregman signs? I don’t know. I see Boston as the best fit for Bregman, if the price is right, and assuming that negotiations are ongoing, its possible that a deal gets done.
