Are the Yankees serious?

NY – Its February 3rd, and the Yankees still have 2 big holes on the team.

The Yankees need to add a Lefty Reliever and another infielder. This is stuff we know. The painful thing is the unwillingness to budge on making a move until Marcus Stroman. And to add to it, Aaron Boone had this to say over the weekend:

These quotes from Boone are really discouraging. Most Yankee fans can agree that putting DJ LeMahieu on the field as a starter in 2025 is not in his, nor the teams best interest.

And to make this more interesting, it was tweeted out by Eric Hubbs of Barstool Sports that when Jaason Dominguez was called up in September of 2024, DJ LeMahieu was supposed to be DFA’ed from the team when certain veterans stepped in and all of a sudden, DJ had a foot injury and was placed on the IL for the remainder of the regular and postseasons.

Look, the sentiment around baseball is that the Yankees are just saying this, and they will add an infielder before opening day. I mean, as I was typing this article, MLB Radio just aired this:

Now, sources at ESPN said that at this time, Arenado was not being looked at, but when two GM’s get desperate, sometimes deals come to fruition. I wrote an article on Saturday noting some other names that the Yankees were interested in:

So look, the offseason is not over, and opening day is not tomorrow. I really hope the plan is not to go internal, but as the days go by, I grow less hopeful that the Yankees replace DJ.
