NY – Despite the comments from Hal Steinbrenner, the Yankees are still looking for 2 more pieces (an Infielder, and LHRP)
Infielder:
According to Jorge Castillo of ESPN, the Yankees are looking for an infielder. He did note that sources indicated that Alex Bregman and Nolan Arenado are not among those who the Yankees are looking at. Obviously, the Yankees most-likely need to move Stroman’s Contract.
What I think is most likely, is the Yankees trading Marcus Stroman and eight million dollars, to the San Diego Padres to receive INF Luis Arraèz. The reason is because if San Diego moves RHP Michael King or RHP Dylan Cease, the Padres will need a starting pitcher who can eat innings, and the money would be similar. The Padres have spoken to at least the New York Mets and the Atlanta Braves about trading one, or both of these players.
Left-Handed Reliever:
Later in his report on ESPN, Jorge Castillo noted that they are still looking for a lefty reliever. The Yankees are interested in a reunion with LHP Tim Hill (also wants a reunion with the Yanks). The reason that Hill has not been signed yet is because Hill’s camp is looking for a 3-year contract, and none of the teams in on Hill are willing to go to 3 years. Among other names mentioned were LHP Andrew Chafin and LHP Danny Coulombe.
It’s comforting to hear the Yankees are not finished yet, but these deals are not either. It starts with Stroman, and will move from there.
