Hal Steinbrenner Speaks

NY – While enjoying a nice Tuesday evening, the YES network aired their weekly Hot Stove program, where they talk all sorts of offseason rumors and expectations.

This week, the Hot Stove team decided to grace us Yankee Fans with an interview YES reporter, Meredith Marakovits, had with Hal Steinbrenner.

Max Goodman explaining what Hal said on Hot Stove.

For Yankee fans like me, this should send an alarm. First off, the Yankees, right now, are NOT a better team than they were at this point last year. They are yet to acquire a Third Basemen, and don’t have a LHP in the Bullpen. And, weather is not wanting to admit their loss with Soto, to say that Bellinger and Goldschmidt could make up his offense is completely absurd.

He also sees a problem with the Dodgers spending. Now look, were not saying you have to spend that much, but can you be the Yankees and get a 3rd basemen before Opening Day so its not the corps of DJ LeMahieu, or one of the kids playing it? Come on, it’s not that hard, and I get $301M is a lot of money, but with the amount of money coming in, he is starting to sound like a mid-market owner.

Steinbrenner also noted that they will be negotiating a contract extension with Manager Aaron Boone over the coming weeks and months (more on that in the article below).

Look Yankee Fans, Hal can’t show his hand on what’s coming next in terms of moves. This could be the team we get in Spring, we could also get last minute additions like in past years. The offseason is not over. Once Stroman is moved, money will free up to make the last second additions that need to be made.
