Trouble Brewing in Boston?

Fort Meyers, FLA – Before this morning, Red Sox nation was riding high after signing all-star third basemen Alex Bregman last Wednesday. Well, Red Sox spring training camp has officially opened and superstar infielder Rafael Devers met the media, and with that, the question about his defensive position came up.

For some context, Devers is a third basemen and in the past, has shown reluctance to move from the position. Well, the Red Sox organization recognized the star’s defensive struggles and were in need of a righty bat and got the whole package in Bregman.

Alex Cora, the Red Sox manager met the media after Raffy did, and lets just say Cora did not hold back

Personally,I love this answer from Cora. Cora’s job is to do what’s in the best interest of the team, and moving Devers to DH does that. Now, Devers saying he would not shoot down a trade is a MAJOR issue. First, he was brought up by the Sox and would gladly be a Red Sox lifer, but to want a trade based on not playing 3rd base is not good for the clubhouse.

Now, let’s be real, the Red Sox are most likely not trading Devers. It would take a lot for the Red Sox to even listen to offers on Devers. Now, I can see a world where Devers would be difficult in terms of moving positions. I only wish the Red Sox had a Dominican DH who was a Hall of Famer that could help ease this transition.
