Then, he went on to hit 3 more homers in a 7-game span until he tore his UCL and required Tommy John surgery. The Martian, as he is called, was sidelined until early June 2024. After a slow month, he was placed on the 7-day IL for more like 20 days due to another injury. When Jaason returned, he was on fire in the minors and was called up on September 5th. Unfortunately, due to some defensive woes and limited at-bats, Jaason did not perform well at all.
Jaason has been at camp since early January working on his left field defense, and the hitting looks good. Earlier this spring, we got some looks from his live at-bats, and he tattooed a home run (from the right side) to left field.
I have been on the Jasson Domínguez train for a very long time now, and I have to say that my excitement has only grown as we approach the 2025 season. Domínguez is finally in a position where he can settle into a consistent lineup—one where he will get regular at-bats and the opportunity to showcase his offensive potential. The biggest difference for him this season will be the increased number of hittable pitches, especially given the current state of the Yankees’ lineup. With Giancarlo Stanton starting the season on the injured list, there will be a lack of depth in the batting order, meaning opposing pitchers may be forced to challenge Domínguez rather than pitch around him. That alone could lead to a breakout season, where his natural power and plate discipline shine through.
Beyond his bat, one of Domínguez’s most underrated attributes is his baserunning ability and elite base-stealing instincts. He has consistently posted an on-base percentage in the .370s throughout his minor league career, which not only speaks to his advanced plate discipline, but also increases his opportunities to steal bases and create havoc on the basepaths.
