Tampa, FLA — The Yanks continue their hot start to March (3-1 so far) with a 12-3 win over the Phillies.
Now, I will be honest: When I saw the Phillies lineup this morning, I was somewhat discouraged. I knew Warren was facing the Phills, and regulars like Judge, Bellinger, Volpe & Chisholm were out of the lineup, but I was wrong.
Warren continued his fabulous spring, going 3 innings and giving up 1 solo home run to Kepler on a Curveball that he is working on this spring. He continues to look like a legit starter, and the Yankees should consider him to join the rotation over Marcus Stroman, who got lit up on Sunday vs. Atlanta.
Now, while Warren’s dominance on the mound was undeniable, today’s game highlight was the sheer, overwhelming power of the Yankees’ offense. It wasn’t just a good day at the plate; it was a complete and utter hitting spectacle. From top to bottom, the lineup was dialed in, delivering hit after hit, leaving no room for the opposing pitcher to breathe. It was a relentless onslaught, a display of offensive prowess that was truly something to behold. They weren’t just hitting the ball; they were dismantling the opposing defense.
Spencer Jones impressed again, going 3-3 with a 3-Run HR. George Lombard Jr. also turned some heads going 2-4 with an RBI, and Paul Goldschmidt hit his first Homer as a member of the Yankees Organization.
Devin Williams entered the game, and his debut inning provided a solid first look. He allowed a single, but then efficiently worked his way through the rest of the lineup. He displayed good command, getting a ground ball for an out, and a pop fly. And, of course, the highlight was the strikeout of J.T. Realmuto. Williams showcased the movement and deception of his changeup, the ‘Airbender’, that is well known, and it was devastating.
When all is said and done, this was an all-around impressive performance from both sides of the ball for the Yankees.
