Tampa, FL – The injury bug has hit Yankees camp again, with the latest casualty, RHP Luis Gil. Gil, the 2024 AL ROTY, won a rotation spot in 2024 after Gerrit Cole’s injury, and went on to own a 15-7 record with a 3.50 ERA.
As summarized in the tweet above, Gil began his bullpen session and felt shoulder tightness and was unable to go on. Boone noted that his elbow is fine (rules out Tommy John), but it’s still concerning that he was unable to continue throwing and had to stop immediately. Boone also noted that it is possible that Gil will miss some time.
Boone had an in-game interview with the YES network during the Yankees 6-3 win on Friday, noting that he will have the MRI on March 1st, and due to the weekend, he won’t have answers until Monday.
Looking for some silver linings (there are not many), the Yankees still have Marcus Stroman, who is as good as a spot starter as it gets for the Yanks. Hopefully Stro pitches with a chip on his shoulder and proves us all wrong.
